Professor Hallowell's Favorite Links
Here are links to a few of Professor Jay Hallowell's favorite internet web sites, annotated:
 New Testament
Start with The New Testament Gateway at http://ntgateway.com/. This is a wonderful resource, full of links managed by Dr Mark Goodacre, Dept. of Theology and Religion, University of Birmingham, UK. He has links to an amazing variety of exegetical, theological, historical, and cultural resources about the NT. Warning: some of these links and resources will have content more liberal than we prefer at BSOP, so critical thinking will be essential as you use them.

Electronic New Testament Educational Resources by Prof. Felix Just, S.J. - Loyola Marymount University. http://myweb.lmu.edu/fjust/Bible.htm. OK, we live in a country heavily influenced by the Roman Catholic Church. This web site is by a Jesuit professor. You will find a number of helpful things here, but remember to think critically about them. The scholarship is good overall. It is a site I find myself using often, though not as often as the NT Gateway, above.

BibleGateway has a variety of resources, but I particularly enjoy access to the IVP New Testament Commentaries, made available by the generosity of InterVarsity Press. Not all the books of the NT are there, but I am impressed that InterVarsity made this helpful, practical, recent, evangelical series available online free. http://www.biblegateway.com/resources/commentaries/

 Bible Study and Hermeneutics
Andrew S. Kulikovsky has a very helpful page of links to various resources about Hermeneutics, including links to the Chicago Statement on Biblical Inerrancy. While many at BSOP will be content with his own views, he gives warning that he does not agree with every thing at every site he has links to from his site. This is a good place to start your search for good things on Hermeneutics. http://hermeneutics.kulikovskyonline.net/hermeneutics/hermeneutics.htm

Interlinear Chinese-English Bible online. http://www.o-bible.com/int.html. Free download of The Bible in Basic English. I copy and paste from here for messages to groups fluent in both Chinese and English for use in PowerPoint presentations.

Need a Tagalog translation of the New Testament other than Ang Biblia or Ang Magandang Balita? Try Ang Salita ng Diyos. It has seemed slightly literal at times, but the (few) parts I have used so far seem OK. Only the New Testament is available so far. This is a good source for those PowerPoint presentations where you want to copy and paste rather than type the passage in yourself.

From a conservative, evangelical standpoint. The best resource here is the NET Bible. “The ultimate objective of the NET Bible is to be accurate, readable, and elegant.” (From the website) I also enjoy the articles by Dr. Daniel B. Wallace, of Dallas Seminary, and others. http://www.bible.org/.

Listen to the word! Free MP3 downloads of the Bible in English, Mandarin, Cantonese, Tagalog (NT) and other languages. Available for download for free. http://www.audiotreasure.com/.

 Missions
I use a variety of helpful web sites on various aspects of missions regularly. Then I discovered this website recently. It is all here! So, start at: http://www.mislinks.org/index.html.
 Journals
www.tyndalehouse.com has other helpful online resources as well. Thank you, Dr. Tan Chiu Eng, for informing me about this site.

 Humor and Comic Strips
Read good, clean text jokes on line. Or, sign up to receive a free good, clean joke each day. They have never missused my email address so far. I enjoy the joke a day!
Jokes about Bible verses and Bible characters, as well as church and contemporary Christianity. One great feature is a search engine at the site so that you can search for the Bible character or book of the Bible you may be teaching or preaching about or from. http://www.reverendfun.com/

Disclaimer: Being listed above should not be considered an endorsement of any site or its contents or links. I do not necessarily agree with all the views, opinions, or presuppositions on any of these sites. I have not explored the whole internet so I cannot even say that these are the best sites out there. All I can really say is that the above are sites that exhibit a reasonable level of scholarship (well, not the joke & cartoon sites), that I have found helpful, and to which I return reasonably frequently.
