Dear Prayer Partner,
One goal of the seminaries where we teach is that the faculty and students become a family in Christ. At first, a seminary does not feel like a family to new students, often for reasons such as those in the quotes above. Every seminary student has to make significant adjustments. Those adjustments are one of the things that God uses to mold their characters to be more like Christ.
Seminary students expect faculty to not only be good teachers in the classroom, but to be their surrogate parents. We, however, try to help our students feel that God is their Father. It seems more Biblical to try to fill the role of older brother or sister rather than parent.
As the new school year begins here (this week for Jay, teaching at BSOP, and next week for Amor, teaching at ATS), we really need your prayers. Please pray for:
Each new student to feel affirmed in his or her call to be at the seminary.
Each student to accept, listen to, and love students from other families and countries; and thus to adjust well to his/her new seminary family.
Us to prepare well and teach effectively in our classrooms.
Us to be good relatives in God's family, helping our new brothers and sisters to adjust, to become more like Christ, and to learn to be effective in ministry.
Us to find the balance in our schedules between teaching and mentoring seminary students and making progress in our own respective doctoral study programs.
Adopted through the Son; Praise the Father!
