Denver Holiday Blizzard
When we woke up on Dec. 21 and looked out our windows:
The garage in back, holding up the snow drift pictured close-up above.
The garage, from another angle.
The neighbor's house with some cool snow drifts/overhangs.
So, even though snow was still falling, we got to work with the snow shovel. Fortunately, the wind speed had decreased dramatically.
The car behind Jay was abandoned there yesterday. We don't know whose it is.
We haven't yet dug out the snow drift blocking the garage doors (below), so our car is still trapped inside the garage. The drifts are big and there is no good place to throw the snow. But, it will need to be done. We were planning to head to Seattle on Friday, Dec. 22. We will still make the trip, though it appears it may need to be on another day.
Er, don't be offended if we don't invite you over for a barbecue on the patio. Unless you offer to dig out the patio table and chairs nearly covered by this snow drift!
A neighbor's "Christmas tree" beautifully decorated, with our house/apartment behind!
20 inches of snow Dec. 20-21, 2006. North winds 30-40 miles per hour. Closed the airport both days leaving 5000 stranded there. All highways north, south, and east closed. Some roads to west open but very slick, some with chain laws in effect. December 21 is officially the first day of winter. And, while it is to warm up a little in the next days, enough snow should remain to give Denver a white Christmas.
Just to put the above in perspective, below is a family photo of Jay's father in Feb. 1936 in Iowa:
