Dear Prayer Partner,
The academic year of the Biblical Seminary of the Philippines is divided into three 11-week quarters. We have only just begun the school year. Yet, August is also the last month of the first quarter. Wow!
Please pray for the following requests:
1. Z. is struggling with the adjustment to seminary. He is now at risk of failing some of Jay’s courses. He has gifts that could be well used in ministry. Pray that he will stop leaning on his own abilities, learn to trust God, and discipline himself to work hard.
2. Y. wants to quit and go home. She just doesn’t like studying, although she is bright enough to handle it. She also has good ministry potential. Please pray for her to overcome the baggage of her past, to accept herself, and to focus on what she needs to do here at the seminary.
3. Please pray for the faculty committees that are trying to find solutions to the strains the increased enrollment has caused in the kitchen, dining hall, library, the internet connection (Jay’s committee), and other aspects of the seminary. These ‘growing pains’ are good in their way, of course. But, we also need to grow out of them so that students and faculty can focus on their studies, not their frustrations.
4. Giving to our support is normally lower in the summer than the rest of the year. But, this summer has been much lower than normal. Right now our support is at 82%. August is ahead. It is usually the lowest month of all. Please ask the Lord to raise this support.
5. Please ask our Lord to provide the stamina we need to teach and mentor well. Pray as we prepare for classes, teach, listen to students, counsel, encourage, answer questions, inspire, correct, grade, and so on. May God use us to bring His best out of each student!
Thank you for your prayers for our students and us! The school year has started well.
May our Lord also encourage and empower you in loving and serving Him.
Pressing on,
Jay and Amor

Some of Jay’s students learn how to study the Bible by doing an exercise on the whiteboard. Students
like activities other than listening to lectures and learn more from such exercises.
