Dear Prayer Partner,
Yesterday we emailed our requests for Mail-in Ballots to the City and County of Denver (Colorado, USA). We are grateful for the chance to exercise this right as American citizens even though we live here. The ballots must now be received by mail from Denver, completed, and mailed to arrive back in Denver by Nov. 4. Let’s keep praying for the USA.
At BSOP we will celebrate Teachers’ Day on Thursday, September 25. The students will have a program for all the teachers, give each a small gift, and have a special meal with them. It is scheduled for this week due to the birthday of Confucius on September 28. We appreciate your prayers for us to continue to grow in effectiveness as teachers and mentors of our called and gifted seminary students here. Thank you for praying for us.
The Muslim feast, Eid’l Fitr, which ends the 30 days of fasting called Ramadan, will be on Wednesday, October 1, 2008. It is an official holiday for the whole Philippines. About 5% of the population of the Philippines are Muslims. There are more Filipino Catholics becoming Muslims each year than there are Filipino Muslims believing in Jesus and following Him each year. The largest unreached people groups in the Philippines are Muslim. We and our students are praying for the Muslims during Ramadan and Eid’l Fitr.
Two groups of BSOP students are preparing for short-term mission trips to Muslims groups in October. We plan to lead one of those groups. Please pray for our planning and preparation. Look for more about these trips in our next prayer letter.
Jay gave evangelistic messages at a Chinese church in Olongapo City on September 7 (photo, above) and at a wedding on September 20. Please pray for seeds sown--then, on BSOP mission trips, and during the course of our daily lives--to grow and bear fruit.
The second academic quarter began on Monday, September 8, 2008 with 7 new students, bringing full-time enrollment here at the seminary to over 90. Our courses--Hermeneutics, English, and Global Missions--are off to a good start.
Still praying and needing prayer,
Jay
Jay and his students met Sister May, above, on a mission trip to a ministry serving the poor like her through micro-lending combined with evangelism and discipleship.
