BSOP
We began teaching and mentoring students at the Biblical Seminary of the Philippines, in Manila, in May, 2002. Jay is teaching Missions, Hermeneutics, and New Testament. Along with teaching Christian Education and English, Amor is mentoring a number of the lady students and is involved in a variety of other personal ministry. We live in a small apartment in one of the dormitories (see photo below) so as to be available to disciple, mentor, and counsel students. We are finding our ministries here at BSOP to be very fulfilling.
BSOP offers a variety of programs for various students. Its main program is residential. That is, students live on campus. Since we also live on campus we need to follow the routines and schedule of the students. The academic year at BSOP follows the most common pattern for the Philippines. Thus the year begins in June and ends in March.

BSOP was founded by OMF and other Filipino-Chinese Christians leaders over 40 years ago. It focuses on the Chinese community in the Philippines.
While nearly 1 million Chinese live in the Philippines, they have been relatively unreached with the gospel, compared to the Philippines as a whole or even compared to mainland the Chinese in other countries. No more than 3% of the Chinese in the Philippines are following Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.

Just under half of the students at BSOP are from the Philippines. There are also students from other countries. We will be teaching in the main track, which uses English as the medium of instruction. The seminary also has a Chinese language track for those who find English too difficult. Our vision is to do our part in reaching the Chinese world through teaching and mentoring students here.
Please pray for us as we teach and mentor in the unique subculture of the Chinese in the Philippines.
Please pray for the Chinese in the Philippines, who mostly live in urban areas and who tend to be business people. Besides keeping them somewhat resistant to the gospel, their success in business has made them targets of kidnappers in the Philippines. Dozens of Chinese are kidnapped each year and held for ransom by various criminal and rebel groups.
We eat with students in the cafeteria in this modern dormitory building. Our apartment is in a building facing the dormitory, about a minute walk away. It is just out of the camera lens to the left in this photo.
