Plans, purposes, policies, parameters, possibilities...
The Goals of our Web Site
1) To bring glory to God
2) To open up a new channel of communication for those who are interested, especially younger people
3) To be able to put more info., history, background, photos, etc. than the average prayer letter allows
4) To be able to do a bit of "archiving" to keep back prayer letters, etc. available for easy reference
5) We are thinking that e-mail will be better for current prayer requests so will probably not use the web site too much for that
Monthly updates needed (or more...):
 Prayer letter added
Upcoming events on Home/Splash/Index page updated
 Answered prayers updated
Photos - esp. those related to the Prayer Letter
We assume that the primary users of the site will be people who know us already and who get the URL from our prayer letters and e-mails. It is not really intended to be a way to attract or meet new people, though if that happens that is fine.
 Security/Privacy policy
What is suitable for the web seems debatable. We are working with several assumptions:
1) It is better not to put people's photos up unless they give their consent. So, with the possible exceptions of passersby, we will ask permission before putting up someone's photo (this is true for links also, or at least we will try to ask permission first).
2) The kidnapping for ransom racket in the PH means we need to be extra careful about putting photos of students and professors. We will check this out when we are there and may be able to become more liberal in this with their permission (see 1). Actually, BSOP is quite happy with our policy above, so we will continue not to put up people's faces. As a compromise we will put up some photos but blur out the faces of those in the photos
3) It is our web site and we are willing to take the risks for ourselves with our own photos and contact information.
Our various means of communication:
The Hallowell Highlights Newsletter, twice a year to widest range of friends, acquaintences, etc., broad perspective
The Hallowell Heartbeats Prayer Letter monthly to those who indicate their committment to pray (and/or give)
The Hallowell Hyperlinks? ( Proclaim His Praise in the Islands) web site for whoever comes along
A whole variety of personal e-mails, letters, cards, phone calls, etc.
It will obviously be important to keep this site fresh and up to date. This will not be easy.
1) New photos will be a key. But, unless we can put up people, that will be a challenge. Consider a photo page about life in Manila??? Obviously photos of our lives and work will be of the most interest
- walk through Karuhatan - about life on the street - have plenty of photos - just do it, perhaps after developing a cultural module for HA using ppt...
- do a Mangyan ministry page, similar to Payatas page, reflecting 2002 & 2005 trips (lots of photos from 2005 to choose from...)
2) We will want to expand the site:
a) new links - to such things as gospel presentations; to new sites we find interesting
-- need to add a links to Friends University & Denver Seminary
b) new content - perhaps devotions, perhaps summaries of our studies, perhaps articles or whatever we write, of course new nls & pls, perhaps video? (idea from jc - our first-hand experience of the EDSA revolution?). Testimonies.
c) Under Our Lives - consider adding our hobbies, interests, recent books read, movies seen, etc. - a more personal touch - idea 2/6/07
3) Use something like? (need to check it out, possible link):
FREE CHRISTIAN WEBSITE CONTENT -- Need some fun content to fill in the
gaps on that mission or church website you're preparing? Check out
ElmCreek Community Church's "Free Christian Content" pages. Get sayings,
jokes, articles, Bible verses, inspirational stories, animated gifs,
banners, photographs, news stories, and more. Some can be configured to
automatically update -- so you get lots of new content without too much
work. For more info, lot on at:
http://www.elmcreekchurch.org/Free_Christian_Content.htm or email
<webmaster@elmcreekchurch.org>. Thanks Elm Creek!
Could also develop resources and/or links re the Philippines, or at least the PH from a missiological perspective
Additional ideas (April 2005):
On HA, find, scan, upload photos of our younger days; esp. for stories about our past
Try to use stories (brief) & photos rather than discourse
 Get Amor's testimony;
Write our 'call' to ministry, missions
Combine Life and Teaching into one category (Life and Ministry)? No actual logical distinction for us
(links to photos?)
PAST / HISTORY
- fun photos of us as kids?
- how Jesus found us - testimonies!
- single but not alone
Jay -- MPHS, FU, IVCF, ATS, Denver Seminary, FDFC, etc.
Amor -- LUHS, UPC-B, IVCF, DTC
- Call to full-time service
- How did we know we should get married?
- OMF 1990 to the present
Why OMF?
First-term 1990-1995 (Students)
Second term 1995-2002 -- (New missionaries)
Third term -- 2002-2007 -- Teaching & Mentoring Seminary Students (organize prayer & news letters here?)
Fourth term -- 2007 to the present (also organize prayer & news letters here?
PRESENT / NOW

- Interests: Marriage, travel, sports, books, latest movies, etc. - link to Facebook?
- Thoughts, Reflections, and ideas (consider a blog for this)

FUTURE / PLANS

Ideas for more links:

etc.
History of our web site
Web site started in March, 2002 at jay_amor.tripod.com. Moved to jayamor.tripod.com in October/November 2002 when we realized that some ISPs block URLs with an _ [underscore].
No longer needed since moving site to BSOP:
Disclaimer: We want to thank Lycos and Tripod for hosting our site for free. But, please be aware that they do not consult us when they place the advertisements on our site. Therefore, we do not necessarily endorse the services or products of any said advertiser. We regret the inconvenience of the ads, but they do keep our site free.
Copy of web site tested at: http//www.bsop.ph/faculty/hallowell beginning the end of March 2004. Permission was given in June, 2004 to inform people of this change and to make it our main page. BSOP is kindly hosting it for free with no ads. Their server also seems to be faster. So, at least while we are serving at BSOP, this seems like a convenient place to host our site. Free of ads and free. Thank you very much BSOP!
Check re BSOP plans to migrate the website (again)
