Jay at BSOP
|
|
Do you think of prisoners-of-war being marched in a victory parade when you read 2 Corinthians 2:14-17? The Corinthians would have! [The New Living Translation translates this well.]
Jay (left) dressed up when he spoke in the BSOP chapel June 18 in order to help the students always remember Paul´s point in the passage.
Thank you, Dennis, for taking the photo, as well as others on our website, some left uncredited.

Jay and one of his students do the motions that go with a worship song sung at a recent farewell service at BSOP. Who is to say which of the two is out of step? Such farewell activities are good ministry opportunities as well as being important for maintaining good relationships with our students and colleagues.

The photo above was taken at our Feb. 2006 meeting. Another member of the Council, Debbie, represented by the empty chair, took this photo. Thank you!

In 2004 Jay was elected by his OMF missionary colleagues to serve on the OMF-Philippines Administrative Council, the decision-making body for OMF here. The Council normally meets quarterly, for three days of meetings. Jay's term on the council will end when we go to the USA to begin our Mobilization Assignment in June, 2006. Jay prays with a variety of students to help them grow and learn.
Here, in October 2005, he prays with a student in Global Missions class about their upcoming mission exposure trip.

Six of the 17 students Jay led on a mission trip to the Mangyan tribe on the island of Mindoro prepare to leave for their village. An OMF colleague, Kuya Ernst (right) helped to facilitate this mission exposure. Thank you very much Kuya (Older brother) Ernst!

Yes, that is a clipart of a mosquito Jay is showing via PowerPoint in his Global Missions course last October 2005. He was preparing his class of 17 students to avoid malaria on a mission he would lead them on to the Manyan in Mindoro.

Jay - extreme left - sits on the dormitory room floor to lead an evangelistic Bible study for students from Taiwan studying at a nearby university.

A huge task for Jay in 2004 was chairing the Planning Committee of the OMF-Philippines Field Conference, held Dec. 28, 2004 to Jan. 1, 2005, with 180 people. He also served as emcee for the conference, pictured here.
|
On July 31, 2004 Jay preached the gospel to 1,385 people following two showings of the play "Rahab: The Harlot".
414 filled in response cards:
121 to accept Christ,
260 to recommit themselves, and
33 to talk to a counselor.
A Chinese Church is following up those 414. Thank you for praying!

Jay speaking in Chapel August 19, 2003. As a faculty member, Jay gets a regular turn preaching in the BSOP Chapel service.
BSOP has chapel or prayer meeting every school day. When the speaker speaks in English, as I do, an interpreter (out of the photo to left, using the music stand partly seen) translates into Mandarin Chinese. When the speaker uses Mandarin, it is interpreted into English.

 Jay really enjoys teaching!

"All work and no play makes 'Jay' a dull boy." It has been fun to teach students how to play frisbee. Some of them have really picked it up quickly! P.E. (Physical Education) is every Monday afternoon at 5 pm, though Jay finds other times to exercise as well.
|
In September, 2002 Jay led a team of 16 faculty and students from BSOP on a mission trip to the Mangyan in the mountains of Mindoro. His students caught Jay sitting between Mangyan in a jeepney on the narrow track leading up to the village we were going to visit. Jay is already dressed for the hour hike up a muddy trail waiting where the jeepney can go no further! And, er, GO BRONCOS!

Jay teaching Inductive Bible Study
The difference a year makes! (see below)
Jay's corner of his office, shared with another faculty guy, has filled in with more books, files, and a computer table. Jay appears to have also filled in...
