Box 11, 1469 Valenzuela, MM, Philippines</div> <div> December 10, 2002</div> <bR> <div> (The paper edition of our prayer letter included <A HREF="id66.htm" TARGET="_top" TITLE="Pasko"><U>a photo that can be found by clicking here</U></A>.)</div> <bR> <div> Dear Praying Friend,</div> <bR> <div> Last week, in the midst of everything else, we squeezed out a day to go to InterVarsity Christian Fellowship (IVCF) to train their staff workers in the area of mentoring.  We had a great day.  Among other things, they appreciated our model of a couple in ministry as we taught the workshop as a team.  </div> <bR> <div> Amor began the day with a story that we think is worth passing on.</div> <bR> <div>  “An elephant was thoroughly enjoying himself as he splashed about in the river.  A mouse was perched on the sandy shore.  It was obvious that he was disturbed about something.  The mouse yelled at the elephant, `Come out of the water at once!'  The elephant laughed and said, `Why should I come out?'  The mouse was not about to be humiliated by this mountain of flesh.  He kept yelling and yelling.</div> <bR> <div> “The elephant realized that if he wanted any peace and quiet he had better come out of the water.  Slowly the elephant lumbered out of the water and stood towering over the mouse.  `Now, why did you want me to come out of the water?'  The mouse looked up and said, `I wanted to see if you were wearing my bathing suit.'</div> <bR> <div> “It is easier for us to understand how an elephant could wear a mouse's bathing suit than it is for us to understand the awesome mystery of the incarnation-God's Word became flesh.  He wore our suit of flesh.”*</div> <bR> <div> December marks the end of the second quarter at BSOP.  Third quarter begins the second week of January.  Please pray for Jay and his students as they finish their end-of-the-quarter papers and exams.  Jay has already begun to shift gears from this quarter to next.  He is preparing for two courses, <I>Urban Mission</I> and <I>The General Epistles</I>, that he has never taught before.</div> <bR> <div> We are looking forward to a nice Christmas vacation.  We plan to go to the OMF house in the mountains of Baguio for 10 days.  We will have Christmas with some of our OMF colleagues there, then come down for New Year with Amor's family.  We don't plan to do much, except for thinking about elephants and mice.  We are here because of what God did in Bethlehem just over 2000 years ago.  Incredible!  Amazing!  Awesome!  Fantastic!  It's about Him!</div> <bR> <div> Merry meditations on the mystery of Majesty made man,</div> <div> Jay and Amor</div> <bR> <div> * from Michael Hodgin, <I>1001 Humorous Illustrations for Public Speaking</I> (1994, CLC) pages 63-64.</div> <bR> <bR> <bR> <div> by Jay and Amor Hallowell</div> <div> December 11, 2002</div> </td> </tr></table></body>
