May, 2003 Hallowell Heartbeats Prayer Letter
May 12, 2003
Dear Praying Friend,
April went by as a blur for Jay, partly because he picked up conjunctivitis (pink eye) three times, so that things were literally blurry. Still he got his teaching and preaching done, though he was not able to finish as much study and preparation as he had hoped.
Marinel, who became a Christian last year in a Bible study with Amor, was recently baptized. Please pray for Amor. She has begun a new Bible study with Marie, a non-believing teenager.
After good support in 2002 at 98%, we are concerned that 2003 has started really slowly in terms of support, at 77% so far. Please join us in praying for this to increase.
The big theme for May is preparation for the new school year, beginning in June. Please pray for the new students as they adjust. Especially pray for the new students from other countries. They are required by the Philippine Government Department of Health to be in quarantine for two weeks to check that they don't have SARS, Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome. SARS is a major concern here, though, so far, the Philippines has not been too badly hit. Fortunately, the government will allow them to be quarantined at BSOP, which is large enough to have a separate building which can accommodate them. Still, what a way for them to begin their seminary studies!
Because of His call,
Jay and Amor

These three students were among those who graduated from BSOP on March 30. Rather than a photo of them in traditional graduation caps and gowns, Jay prefers to remember them in action, on the mission trips he led them on. Here they inspect a vegetable growing project which was part of a ministry trip to a squatter area in Metro Manila. One will be the Pastor at a church in the southern Philippines while the other two minister in different churches in Metro Manila. Please remember to pray for God to use all the graduates as they move out in full-time ministry.
