Dear Praying Friend,
The First Quarter at BSOP ended with a rush, like every quarter does, the first week of September. Jay's desk is still groaning under the weight of papers remaining to be graded. After a short break, Second Quarter began on September 22. The short break is already but a distant memory.
Our break was shortened by the death, of cancer, of Amor's “Auntie” Aida. While no one likes funerals, it was good to see Amor's family again, including family members who came from the USA. During the funeral service, Amor had a chance to share about “Auntie” Aida finding meaning in life as a result of her profession of faith in Jesus.
Balloons are common at birthday parties and other joyous occasions in the Philippines. So we were surprised at the graveside service for Auntie Aida to be given helium balloons with her name and the phrase “Go with God” printed on them (see photo). Several seemed to find releasing the balloons into the sky a comfort in the midst of their grief. We are not sure how widely practiced this new activity is here in the Philippines.
Things are going quite well. Several new students have enrolled for this quarter, including a number of part-time students. Jay is teaching Hermeneutics (Studying and Interpreting the Bible) and New Testament 2 (NT2 or Acts and the Early Pauline Epistles) this quarter. NT2 is particularly a challenge since it is Jay's first time to teach it at the seminary level. Asian students tend to be visual thinkers. So, Jay has been trying to use PowerPoint presentations in his classes. The students appreciate the photos, clipart, graphics, and illustrations because it helps them learn. Of course, finding and scanning the appropriate visual aids is very time consuming. We need prayer!
God is in control. God is continuing to call workers for the harvest here in the Philippines. Amazingly, he wants to use us to help to train and prepare these workers for the ministry. He is answering your prayers.
Praise the Lord!
