January 2004 Hallowell Heartbeats
HALLOWELL HEARTBEATS
Prayer Letter of Jay and Amor Hallowell, with OMF-International-Philippines
Mail: c/o BSOP, 77-B Karuhatan Rd., P.O. Box 11, 1469 Valenzuela, MM, Philippines
January 26, 2004
Dear Praying Friend,
The New Year brings the third and last quarter of the academic year at BSOP. Jay is enjoying teaching New Testament 3, Urban Missions, and a special course on Acts. It is, though, a heavy load.
One area of special concern is our financial support. We ended 2003 with only 78% of our needed support. OMF is still discussing the implications of this, including whether or not we should be sent home to raise more. As you know, in OMF we do not solicit support. But, we do ask you, our dear prayer partners, to pray that God will indeed supply the needed support in 2004.
BSOP is in the process of working out more strategic ways to be involved in reaching Asia. Please pray for these plans, which for a number of reasons cannot at this point be revealed. God has placed us in a very strategic place at a very strategic time!
Happy New Year!
Jay and Amor
Payatas is the site of a major garbage dump where many people earn their living by scavenging (see above). It is notorious for its poverty and spiritual need. Jay will lead his Urban Missions class on an Exposure and Mission Trip there Jan. 30 to Feb. 1. Please pray for us to have:
Health and safety
Teachable hearts and flexibility
Wisdom and boldness in our evangelistic efforts and other ways of ministering.
On December 20, 2003 Leah suddenly died at age 22 of a rare disease. She was a first-year student at BSOP and one of the ladies Amor was mentoring. We were all shocked and saddened.
God has already provided a new student for Amor to mentor. Please pray for Amor to have wisdom as she disciples each of her ladies.
