March 24, 2004 Hallowell Heartbeats
Dear Praying Friend,
March is graduation month in the Philippines. Education is highly valued here. Therefore, the graduations are big events, full of pomp and circumstance.
We are excited about what God has been doing in the lives of the 15 students who are graduating from BSOP on March 28. God has been at work in their lives through your prayers. Thank you very much.
They ask for your continued prayer. Seminary was hard. They are aware that full-time ministry will be harder. Some will be going to be one of the few pastors of large churches (1000 - 2000 members). Others will be involved in Christian education or counseling ministries in large churches or small. Please pray that God will help each one to:
Make a good transition from seminary life to ministry life, not least of all spiritually
That God will lead each one to the ministry he desires for them
That God may use each one significantly in his or her ministry
Amor ( click here to see her graduation photo) continues to be active in ministry, but without forgetting to take time to study. She will be graduating, with a Master of Arts in Christian Education, from Asian Theological Seminary on April 2. This does not mean she is finished studying, since she is enrolled in a Doctor of Education program at the Asia Graduate School of Theology. Two seminaries have invited her to begin teaching classes when the new school year begins in June. Please pray for wisdom for her to know how to balance her continued studies and her ministry. Ask our Father to guide her to know which, if either, of these invitations she should accept.
Jay has led his Urban Missions class to work with a ministry reaching out to some of the more than 300,000 prostitutes in the Philippines March 5-6. He led evangelistic Bible studies with medical students from Taiwan who are enrolled in a nearby medical school on Feb. 28 and Mar. 13. One lady became a believer as a result of this ministry. Much grading is stacked up on his desk waiting to be done. Our calendars are full of various farewells and activities connected with the upcoming graduations.
We covet your prayers for finishing this academic year well and for preparation for a heavy April. Details about that will have to wait for another prayer letter.
Because He first loved us!
Jay and Amor
