June, 2004 Hallowell Heartbeats Prayer Letter
HALLOWELL HEARTBEATS
Prayer Letter of Jay and Amor Hallowell, with OMF-International-Philippines
June 25, 2004
Dear Praying Friend,
The most obvious new thing is that the BSOP Dining Hall is almost full this new school year, which began June 7. We praise God that the enrollment at BSOP is up significantly.
Asian churches have a growing missionary vision that God may use to send thousands of new missionaries. Some BSOP students are here specifically for training in how to be a missionary in these difficult to reach areas. These churches are praying and preparing to catch up with the Koreans and Indians, who are already 2nd and 3rd in the world in the number of missionaries sent out. (The USA is number one.)
Here we are serving at BSOP, humbled and amazed by what God is doing. Our assigned role is still to focus on the English track on the seminary, which mostly serves students from the Philippines and Hong Kong.
Jay is teaching Inductive Bible Study and Spiritual Formation courses this quarter. Amor is helping out with Inductive Bible Study. Both of us are involved in mentoring and a range of other activities involving the students and faculty of BSOP, while working on our doctorates.
We and BSOP urgently need your prayers. While these prayer requests may seem ordinary, they are very important. Please pray for:
- Energy and relevance in teaching, mentoring, and relating.
- Wisdom and creativity; God's guidance and leadership, balanced expectations.
- God to continue to give teachable hearts, health, and growth in character and ministry skill to us, all the faculty, and, most of all, the students at BSOP
Because God is concerned (Jonah 4:11),
Jay and Amor
(Some parts of our printed letter were not included due to the risk of that information being used in unhelpful ways. Please contact us if you want that information.)
(The printed letter also included a map with the following caption: “This map shows the “10/40 window.” Within the lines live more than 90% of the world's remaining unreached people groups, and all 50 of the world's least evangelized countries.” We are excited that some BSOP students feel that God is calling them to serve in these areas. A color version of this map and additional information may be found at http://www.gmi.org/products/1040.htm#The%2010/40%20Window%20(overview) -- the first map).
